| A Warm Welcome to our readers! |
| |
|
This is our very first newsletter - We are so excited about sharing our news with you. We hope you will find our local information interesting and heartwarming.
Our aim is to provide you with some unusual and interesting facts about our native wildlife. We will also have snippets of information about local business news as well as community stories.
For the past 3 years the Wildengland team have been busily working behind the scenes researching animals and towns across England and they still have a lot more to do!
The team have had many challenges along the way and this has not deterred them at all. Their sheer determination and commitment has been quite remarkable! However, we are pleased to say that we have had a number of wonderful breakthroughs recently:
a) BBC - Spring Watch have linked to our site, see www.bbc.co.uk/springwatch/meettheanimals/
b) Last month www.wildengland.com had over 30,000 pages viewed - we're delighted
c) Local businesses are supporting the site
Our plans for the future: We will be adding more pictures and age category write ups for children aged from 6 - 12 and we are also including an adult factfile -Information for all the family. Please see www.wildengland.com/adder as an example.
If you have any photos or stories about any of our animals on our site, we would love you to share those with us. We do hope you will enjoy reading our news and continue to join us on our journey. Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter.
Enjoy the summer!
Warmest Regards
Kathy and the team

Heronry Site - Just in time!
|
|
If you would like to see around twenty nesting pairs of wonderful Grey Herons, then why not visit Trentabank Reservoir at Macclesfield Forest. Year after year, from January to July, these tall, long necked birds return to the heronry for the breeding season. These birds can be easily seen with their wingspan of nearly two metres, but you may not spot them straight away when they are standing motionless between the reeds waiting silently and patiently for fish to swim by. You will definitely hear them though when they make loud croaking 'kaark' sounds as they take to the air.

Local News
Hurdsfield Primary School
I was introduced to www.wildengland.com by a friend at the very time I had discovered the title for my long writing task in Key Stage 1 SATS. It was non chronological report on night time animals and wow how we used your site! It was child friendly so they could do research at home and the language was such that it really lifted their writing e.g. the child who said that beavers were semi aquatic (we had just read Beaver Towers). My colleague went to the Chestnut Centre last week and is making full use of the site as the children are researching otters and owls.

My favourite Animal

My favourite animal is the Barn Owl. I like the Barn Owl because I like owls and I have touched one before and it felt soft.

Did you Know
|
The Common Frog - The female frog can lay between 1,000 - 1,500 eggs. Each egg has its own jelly (shell). Quite incredible and not only that, within this protection is a small yolk which provides nutrients for the developing embryo.
